Mirai is engaging, no doubt, but even with positives it has major negatives. The movie shows nine mysterious powers belonging to Hindu heritage but gives some of them to non-Hindu characters – including one Muslim character who openly praises his god. How can powers rooted in Hinduism be shown as protected by someone who believes only in one god and rejects others? The antagonist learns powers from Hindu scriptures but says there is no god, and then focuses on killing only Hindus. Why not show him targeting all believers equally if that is his motive? This selective targeting feels like hypocrisy. When Hyderabad was first shown, the filmmakers used Muslim prayer as background music, as if Hyderabad belongs only to Muslims. Hyderabad is part of Telangana, and its history includes Hindus fighting radical forces to protect Sanatana Dharma. Reducing its identity to one religion erases that history. Filmmakers should stop portraying Hindu heritage this way and should respect the diversity and struggles of the people they depict.
